Seattle 91 is one of two pieces I created as a reflection on the city of Seattle. This first one Seattle 91 is a felt experience of the city when I first came to the Pacific Northwest in 1991. While vibrant, Seattle 91, in contrast to its book-end sister piece Seattle 19, feels much more like the sleepy Pacific Northwest town Seattle was a couple of decades ago. There's overall a much more intense, hectic, crowded feeling to the city today which in some ways is fun and exciting and yet there are parts of it that are too overbearing and garish and feels squeezed in and not in a good way - in a way that feels suffocating, profiteering and relentless. There's a certain free living in a way where the salt air from the ocean has room to move in between things that's disappearing in lots of Seattle and most of the area around it yet its still got its amazing neighborhoods that make it way more than the stale cookie cutter experience of a suburb.
