Seattle 19 is the second of two pieces the artist created as a reflection on the city of Seattle. This second one Seattle 19 is the artist's felt experience of the city when she returned from California in 2019. The piece is in contrast to its book-end sister piece Seattle 91, which feels much more like the sleepy Pacific Northwest town Seattle was a couple of decades ago. There's overall a much more intense, hectic, crowded feeling to the city today. In some ways this is fun and exciting and yet there are parts of it that are too overbearing and garish. Many parts of Seattle feel squeezed in and not in a good way - in a way that feels suffocating, profiteering and relentless. There's a certain free living in a way where the salt air from the ocean has room to move in between things. That's disappearing in many areas of Seattle and most of the area around it. Despite this Seattle has still got amazing neighborhoods that make it way more than the stale cookie cutter experience of a suburb. The concern is how far is the City willing to carve these neighborhoods up in the developer race of high density existence and loose the very essence of Seattle in its all devouring economic growth".
