About this piece and what it was foretelling in the emerging context of what's happening in Ukraine.

I created this piece in May of 2020 and named it Consciousness Landscape. I created a limited edition print series of it and took the first one for my own home where it's been hanging on my wall for over a year now. I look at it often in the collection of others I have of the same series. Each one has an emerging evolutionary context of consciousness that keeps unfolding. What I had not and could not have understood as I created and named this piece Consciousness Landscape is that I had unconsciously tapped into a collective consciousness that was still to come and which is unfolding now.

This morning (March 23, 2022), I realized that Conscious Landscape is a map of what's happening now in our global consciousness. As I created this landscape map back in 2020 I envisioned a place that was familiar yet new to me. I was compelled to capture a lake within which a river flowed which puzzled me at the time. There are streams, forests and a fractured reflection which I felt was even more disruptive and perplexing to me as I created it.

In my work yellow denotes enlightenment - consciousness. The black is our shadow - our unconscious that separates us from what's life giving. When you look at the yellow, watch what's happening - the landscape is moving - telling you something.

Today, as I revisited it, I understand it's creative context. What's emptying out of what appears as a vessel are Ukrainian colors. The vessel is emptying into the river moving west. The river is a symbol of the 10 million exodus of Ukrainians moving west. It is also the movement of a new consciousness.

The river when I drew it felt energetically forced in my hand as I drew it as it was flowing left not right and I could feel a distinct energy that felt counter my own at the time -a resistence and almost counter flow. It's bothered me so much that I could feel only relief from it when the pink spiral was drawn and completed. As I look at the piece I noticed my struggle in creating it and the bridge or wall in the river's path west. To me there is war but there is also a counter energy to it.

There are streams flowing in and around the central river. Some are rivers of blood and there is fear present. Yet central to the work is a heart made up of many colors - a divine stained glass that emerges from what is shattering and being built anew.

The message of this piece is that our response is vital.

The piece is inviting you into full participation with it.

More importantly its about raising our individual as well as collective consciousness in noticing we each have choice in what energy we create. We chose the energy of peace in creating it and we create it by becoming conscious of our own agency in bringing love not war into being. We are being asked to come into a new heart consciousness - with ourselves and with each other.

Reflections: September | 2020

Consciousness Landscape is a piece created to honor the deeper appreciation I feel for the process of consciousness. I attempt to lay open more of an understanding for examining the context in which enlightenmet becomes possible. There is a vitality to the piece and yet there is a mirage-like quality which I felt compelled to reflect in the piece too. I realized that what I was striving to convey was that not all that may appear as reflections or as gateways into a higher consciousness are necessarily true reflections of being in the state of consciousness. Moreover to assume and strive to remain in this state in any fixed way is itself an illusion.

I deliberatebly found myself drawing the chain of bubbles of awakenings to convey a more realistic experience of consciousness which I've depicted as yellow circular pod-like spaces (aka "openings") suggesting that we cannot handle more than what these mean at any given time.

I invite the viewer in search of higher consciousness what indeed it would be like to have a 100% of sustained consciousness capacity of the brain versus the intermittent smaller percentages we use today. Is it possible to be "all-seeing"? Do we even have through the potential of evolution the capacity to be "all-seeing"? If it is possible to imagine it could be can it then be? And then this begs the question - how? Presence, yes. However our capacity seems on an individual basis today.

I wondered as I finished the piece if the answer to how lies in creating presence collectively and in a quantum experience of it. The idea there is a collective landscape of a sort of quantum frontier of consciousness seems exciting and its potentiality worth exploring if we can sustain our ability to remain in the state of consciousness it would require of each of us and as a collective.
