Space OddEasy is meant as a playful rendition of how I would design a space ship. It is inherently more feminine and fun yet there is an understanding that it lacks nothing of the presumed functionality we see in the more "real" versions being launched into space. There is a strange dicotomy between what the world perceives as serious and functional and "engineering-like" which I'm suggesting has an underlying motive in the masculine-dominated professions and their need for respect versus the freedom a more feminine approach would take with the painful effect that it would then be taken less seriously and less deserving of respect.
Space OddEasy is about a journey into creating space for something different. I'm questioning the need for a self-imposed austerity in creativity and that when we get to blur the lines of this dicotmny I believe there will be more equality in the professions typically demanding the "masculine" approach and thereby a perhaps unintented restrictiveness around creative non-linear type solutions that end up never even making it to the drawing board or seeing the light of day.
The Space OddEasy piece is symbolic of "outer" space yet I invite us to look at where on earth we also opt for staying in the box and remain stubbornly unwilling to venture into "the outer limits" of how we are chosing to see possibilities.
I'm underscoreing here the purpose of this work by giving it the title Space OddEasy, a double word play on odd and easy - replacing the traditional space voyager word "Odyssey". Yes - it might sound "odd" at first to try expanding ourselves in this way and yet also strangely easy to create innovation.
